Settling a contract in a crypto asset does not remove the currency questions. It changes where they appear.

## The obligation currency

A contract denominated in dollars and settled in a dollar stablecoin has a dollar obligation. One denominated in tenge and settled the same way has a tenge obligation discharged through a conversion.

Which it is determines the accounting, the tax position and the documentation. It is decided by the contract, not by the instrument.

## The conversion point

Every crypto settlement with a local party involves a conversion somewhere: at receipt, at payment, or both. That conversion is a currency transaction with a rate and a margin.

Treating it as invisible because it happened inside an exchange is the most common error in records here.

## The valuation question

A transaction must be valued in tenge at the moment it occurred. Which rate source and applied consistently is the part a business controls.

Choose one, document the choice, and do not change it during a reporting period.

## Where ambiguity is real

Whether particular crypto settlements fall within specific currency reporting categories has not been uniformly settled, and practice has moved ahead of guidance in places.

Where that applies, a specific transaction warrants a specific opinion rather than an inference from a general principle.

## What is not ambiguous

That the institution handling the fiat leg will apply its own documentation requirements regardless. Those are the requirements you meet in practice.

## What a business should record

The obligation currency, the settlement instrument, the rate used, the source of that rate, and the fees. Five fields that resolve nearly every subsequent question.

## The structural choice that simplifies it

Converting at the edge, so the crypto leg exists only between two currency balances. The transaction then looks like an ordinary cross-border settlement with a faster middle.

[A platform that issues a statement you can file](https://collectnexchange.com/services/crypto-payment) records both legs and the rate, which turns a reconstruction into a document.

## The position that survives any interpretation

Document the substance, use [a regulated counterparty](https://collectnexchange.com/compliance/cysec-licensed), and value consistently. [Collect & Exchange, which operates under a licence](https://collectnexchange.com/), produces the trail that any of the possible interpretations would require.
